Bio Edit

Dustin "Dusty" Ray Spears is an American Karateka and drummer. Spears' time in Isshinryu has got him to a brown belt level currently working on blackbelt. Spears studies under James Frye of Athens, TN. James Frye is the student of Master Burris who learned Isshinryu from Harold Long, one of Isshinryu's first American practicioners under Isshinryu founder Tatsuo Shimabuk. Spears is the full time drummer for Industrial and Melodic Metal band Sultan which is the Co-Founder of, along with lead guitarist Chris Hayes.

Personality / Lifestyle Edit

Spears is known mostly for his support of the straight edge movement. While most of Spears' friends and family are social drinkers and some smokers, Spears refers to drugs, alcohol and tobacco use as "a lifestyle choice. And a choice he chooses not to make." Spears has confessed to experiment with alcohol on rare occasions, but for religious purpose, and he never drank enough to be intoxicated. In relation to martial arts, Spears is noted for a clashing combination of an arrogant attitude as well as being overly friendly.

Career Highlights / Accomplishments Edit

At Kelly's Heroes Classic in April of 2008 Spears competed in his first IIKA sanctioned tournament as an Isshinryu greenbelt winning 4th place in Kumite (fighting) and 3rd place in Kata (forms). March 21st, 2009 Spears competed again in the Athens Martial Arts Games taking 5th place in Kata and 3rd place in Kumite. Then more recently Spears entered the Kelly's Heroes Classic Martial Arts Tournament April 25th, 2009 in Rogersville, TN where he placed 5th in Kata and 3rd in Kumite again. Spears will be competiting in the LeBanon Martial Arts Tournament June 6th, 2009 and the Hall of Fame tournament August 1st, 2009 to end the IIKA tournament season.
