Jimmy Smith (born September 2, 1977) is an American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. He is the co-host of the television show Fight Quest, with Doug Anderson, on the Discovery Channel. He was primarily trained in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. 
Early life Edit
Smith grew up outside of Fresno, California. His grandfather was a boxer in the United States Army. Smith began his fighting career during high school on the wrestling team. He studied history at UCLA and he participated in a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu club there. After graduating in 2000 he became a seventh-grade mathematics teacher.
Smith has earned a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu purple belt and holds various Brazilian Jiu-jitsu titles, including the Joe Moreira Tournament Lightweight Champion, Copa Pacifica Welterweight Champion, the Cleber Luciano Tournament Welterweight Champion and the Paragon Tournament Champion. Smith also placed third in the Southern California Submission Pro-Am and the 2003 Gracie Open. He fought in his first pro fight with Team Punishment of Huntington Beach, California, in 2001.
Smith is also currently working as a color commentator for the M-1 Challenge fight series which matches teams of fighters from various countries against one another over a television season. He served as color commentator for the Affliction: Day of Reckoning show January 24, 2009.
