Patrick Joseph Barry (born July 7, 1979) is a professional Heavyweight mixed martial artist, from New Orleans, Louisiana. He is currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship and fights out of Grudge Training Center in Arvada, Colorado.

Mixed Martial ArtsEdit

Barry made his MMA debut on May 30, 2008 with the Combat USA organization. Whilst there he fought 3 times over 4 months, winning two fights via TKO with leg kicks, and the other fight by KO, ending each of the bouts in the first round.

UFCEdit

On December 27, 2008, Barry made his successful debut in the UFC against Dan Evensen, at UFC 92, injuring the Norwegian's left knee with a brutal right low kick (the 3rd such kick of the round) at 2:36 of Round 1. Barry lost to UFC newcomer Tim Hague via submission at UFC 98. His last fight was against Antoni Hardonk on October 24, 2009 at UFC 104.[1] Barry won by second round TKO. After weathering several leg kicks in the first round from Hardonk, Barry found his range in the second round with fast jab combinations, hurting Hardonk several times before dropping him, following up with strikes to finish the fight at 2:30 of round 2 for a TKO victory.===

Barry earned Knockout of the Night and Fight of the Night honors at UFC 104. The event earned him $120,000. In an interview, Barry said he was broke, lived on ketchup and rice, and was about to be evicted in six days [2]. Despite heavy financial burden, this fight was personal for Barry as he was fighting a member of Ernesto Hoost's camp. Barry claimed that Hoost, a former K-1 champion, gave up on him, resulting in a falling-out between the two. Barry also said that he waited five years for validation and finally got it when he defeated Antoni Hardonk.[3]

Barry was next scheduled to fight Gilbert Yvel, but his opponent was later changed. He is now expected to fight Mirko Filipović at UFC 115 in Vancouver, Canada[4] Barry fought MMA legend Mirko Filipović on June 12, 2010, Barry had success early, rocking Mirko twice in the first round. In round three Barry was dropped by a combination and finished with a rear-naked choke.[5] Barry returned against Joey Beltran at UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 in Texas. Barry earned a unanimous decision.[6]

On June 26, 2011, Barry faced fellow Kickboxer Cheick Kongo at UFC Live 4. Barry dropped Kongo twice early and almost finished the French fighter, However Kongo came back and threw two right hooks that knocked Barry out at 2:39in round one. Many people consider the fight with Kongo to be one of the greatest comebacks ever.[7] Barry then fought Stefan Struve at UFC Live 6. In round two Struve slapped on a triangle choke, Barry tried slamming out before submitting to Struve.[8] Barry then scored a first round KO against Christian Morecraft on January 22, 2012.[9]

Pat Barry was then paired up with hard hitting Lavar Johnson at UFC on Fox 3. Barry lost by TKO in the first round.[10] Pat then fought former Muay Thai champion Shane Del Rosario at The Ultimate Fighter Season 16 Finale. Barry won via knockout in round two.[11] Barry's next fight was against Shawn Jordon on June 15, 2013. Barry was finished early by TKO (punches) in round one.[12] After the fight, Pat Barry's manager claimed that Barry took a finger to the eye and that was why he went down.[13]

Pat Barry lost to Australian Soa Palelei via KO (punches) in Brisbane on December 7, 2013.[14]
