Ryan Bader (born June 7, 1983) is a American professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. He was a cast member of Spike TV's The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir. On December 13, 2008, Bader defeated Vinicius Magalhães to win a contract with the UFC and the title of The Ultimate FighterTemplate:'s light heavyweight championship.

Bader is ranked among the top ten light heavyweights in the world by leading mixed martial arts publications, such as Sherdog.com ranking him at No. 10.[1]

Early lifeEdit

Bader was born in Reno, Nevada. Bader entered mixed martial arts after a successful career in amateur wrestling. As a high school wrestler (McQueen High School), he won two state championships, being ranked as high as 4th in the country for wrestling. After high school, Bader went on to wrestle at Arizona State University. While at ASU, Bader was a three-time PAC 10 Champion and two-time D-1 All-American. His 120 wins ranks him 8th on the all-time wins list for ASU. Bader was college teammates with current UFC competitors Cain Velasquez and C.B. Dollaway.

Bader began training in MMA under trainers Todd Lally and Trevor Lally. He began training at Arizona Combat Sports in early 2007 and is currently undefeated in his young MMA career. Bader fought six times in 2007, all of them victories.

Bader's training partners include TUF 7 contender and UFC middleweight C.B. Dollaway, All-American Wrestler Aaron Simpson, former UFC middleweight contender Thales Leites, and former WEC Champion Jamie Varner.

Ultimate Fighting ChampionshipEdit

Bader was a contestant on season 8 of The Ultimate Fighter. Bader was the first light heavyweight selected by Coach Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, winning his first 3 fights on the show to earn a spot in the finals.

Ryan Bader defeated Vinicius Magalhães at The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale, earning the title of "The Ultimate Fighter" and winning a six-figure UFC contract. He won the fight after catching Magalhães with an overhand right that dropped him and followed up with strikes on the ground to take the win.

Ryan Bader returned at UFC Fight Night 18, facing off against Carmelo Marrero and ended up winning the fight by unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–27). During the match, Bader tore his medial collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament.

Bader, along with fellow Ultimate Fighter winner Efrain Escudero, appeared in the video game for the UFC entitled UFC 2009 Undisputed. He and Efrain Escudero were available for download by using a special code obtained by pre-ordering the game from Gamestop.[2] Although, on September 10, 2009, he and Escudero were made available for download on Playstation Network and Xbox 360 Marketplace.

His next fight was against Eric Schafer on October 24, 2009 at UFC 104. The fight was mainly dominated by Bader utilizing great combinations in his stand-up and control on the ground ending with an unanimous decision victory by the score of (29-26, 30-27 and 30-27) for Bader.[3]

Bader next faced Keith Jardine on February 21, 2010 at UFC 110.[4] Bader finished the fight after rocking Jardine with a flying knee to the chest, followed up by a left hook at 2:10 of the third round.

As of March, 23rd 2010 Bader, along with Jesse Forbes, C.B. Dollaway and Aaron Simpson, left Arizona Combat Sports to train at the Lions Den MMA academy in Scottsdale, Arizona as they believed they couldn't improve at ACS any longer.[5]
