Travis Browne (born July 17, 1982) is an American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. He is currently signed as a heavyweight with the UFC. Travis Browne holds notable wins over Stefan Struve, Chad Griggs, Gabriel Gonzaga, Alistair Overeem and Josh Barnett, all of them finishes in the first round.

MMA CareerEdit

Browne began his professional MMA career in 2009, fighting in smaller organizations such as Bellator Fighting Championships, Gladiator Challenge and King of the Cage. He quickly amassed an undefeated winning streak of 9-0.

Ultimate Fighting ChampionshipEdit

In March 2010, it was announced that Browne had signed with the UFC. He is expected to make his debut at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale against James McSweeney. He defeated McSweeney via TKO in round 1.[1] Travis next fought French fighter Cheick Kongo at UFC 120 in London. After 3 rounds of fighting, the fight ended in a unanimous draw.[2]

In his next fight, Travis fought "The Skyscraper" Stefan Struve at UFC 130 on May 28, 2011. Browne knocked out Struve with a superman punch in the final minute of round 1. Browne earned Knockout of the Night with his victory over Struve.[3]

Browne then won a unanimous decision over Rob Broughton on September 24, 2011, at UFC 135 in Denver, Colorado.[4]

Browne next fought former Strikeforce fighter Chad Griggs at UFC 145 on April 21, 2012. Browne won via Submission (arm-triangle choke) in round 1 and won Submission of the Night for his performance.[5]

Browne was expected to fight Ben Rothwell at UFC on FOX 4 on August 4, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. However Rothwell was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury.[6]

Browne faced Antonio Silva on October 5, 2012 at the main event of UFC on FX 5.[7] Browne came out aggressive, showing a variety of striking techniques. After being countered for the first few minutes, Browne tore his left hamstring. Silva was able to capitalize, backing Browne up, landing a big right hand and finishing with punches from the top, giving Browne his first professional loss. During the post-fight press conference, Browne said that even though he got injured, it didn't take anything away from Bigfoot's victory. A camera crew from Vice Media followed and interviewed Browne before and after the fight with Silva.[8]

6 months later, browne rebounded with a KO win over UFC veteran Gabriel Gonzaga at The Ultimate Fighter Season 17 Finale, earning Knockout of the night.[9] The fight was heavily scrutinized because of the perceived illegality of Browne's elbows, which clearly landed on the back of Gonzaga's head while being thrown in a prohibited "12 to 6" motion. Gonzaga's appeal to the Nevada State Athletic Commission was denied.[10]

Browne then welcomed Alistair Overeem back to the cage at UFC: Fight Night 26 on August 17. Browne was hurt early with a body shot, but was able to recover and knock out Overeem with a front kick in round 1. The impressive performance earned him Knockout of the Night.[11]

Browne faced Josh Barnett on December 28, 2013 at UFC 168. Browne won exactly a minute into the match via knockout due to elbows while Barnett was attempting a takedown.[12]

Personal lifeEdit

Browne has two sons, named Kaleo and Keawe from his marriage to his now ex-wife Erin. Browne is currently dating fitness model Jenna Renee Webb.[13] His father is also Hawaiian.[14][15]
